Am I the last one to know that Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma) and Michael J. Fox are brothers-in-law?

No. I'm usually the last to know. It makes sense since his wife's last name is Pollan, but I would never have put two and two together!

  2. I somehow suspect you are FAR from the last one to know. I surely didn't!

  4. I didn't know either. And if I told anyone they'd all go "Huh? Who's Michael Pollen?"

I didn't know. But I did know that his father hated wearing pants: "I remember him as strictly an indoor dad, moving around the house in his year-round uniform of button-down shirt, black socks and tie shoes, and boxer shorts." (Second Nature, p. 9)

  6. Oh, cool! Have you read much of Pollan, Margaret? So far all I've read is Botany of Desire, though I have O's D on hand and ought to get around to it.

Yes, but how many steps is Pollen away from Kevin Bacon?

    Hi Susan,

I've read The Omnivore's Dilemma (great book, btw) and (ahem) parts of Second Nature. His pieces in the New York Times magazine are in the same vein as his latest book. Every once in awhile, I think about subscribing to the Times Select service so I can have access to his columns and Frank Rich's.
