I've been adding books to my wishlist in the hopes that someone will buy some of them for me for Christmas. I read the Nemirovsky (never got around to reading it). I thought it was actually pretty good for an unfinished or unedited work. I need to read Suite Francaise, too. I found two Compton-Burnettes at the used bookstore last weekend--Manservant was one of them. Good luck staying away from Amazon!
ReplyDeleteI need to read Suite Francaise, too. I got it for Christmas last year. I have a sinking feeling that I may not be able to convince anyone to buy me books this year (nor a fox from Germany, alas), so my wishlist is going to be enormous come February.
ReplyDeleteIt's your fault the Compton-Burnettes are on my list. :)
Dream Angus was wonderful. I have really enjoyed each of the Canongate myths.
ReplyDeleteLOL. Are you going to be able to make it for three months without buying anything?
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Because otherwise I have to buy MFS a book. And she already has a lot more than me. I think *she* should break and buy one for me. :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting lsit - Sunset Song is one of my favourite books...
ReplyDeleteDo add Ivy's _A God and His Gifts_ to your wish list. It's spectactular and quintessential Compton-Burnett.
