For authors, this week’s return of the Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is a case of good news/bad news. The good news is that authors once again have a shot at appearing on two of the most effective book publicity outlets on TV. The bad news—especially for the kind of left-leaning nonfiction authors likely to find a receptive audience on these shows—is that they’d have to cross a picket line of fellow writers.

    I was wondering how writers felt about the return of the John Stewart Show and the Colbert Report. They both seem to be in support of the writers' strike. But I wonder just how much the return of their shows actually hurts the,.

    I watched only one night this week. I felt uncomfortable doing so although I read somewhere "the writers" were happy that Steward and Colbert could get their message out, but I have no idea if that's true.

    Gah, I hate corporations.

  4. Well, I'm a non-voting member at the moment, but still very much pro-union. I actually pay for a post office box so I don't have to pick up my many (many) parcels (mostly amazon!) at the incompetent privatized postal outlet. It's the same in labour as in everything else--you get what you pay for.
