ReplyDeleteWhat book do I cringe from reading even though it has gotten good reviews? Any modern book of over 600 pages. I'll happily read the tried-and-true monster books such as Middlemarch, War and Peace, Anna Karenina, and Don Quixote. But a book has to have withstood the test of time for me to devote that much effort to it. That is why I haven't read any Vollmann or Wallace. I'll wait until they write a short book. Usually I'll start with an author's short book to judge if I should read their longer works.
