Once Upon A Time the Second

Once Upon

Carl's second annual Once Upon A Time Challenge starts tomorrow. I'm hoping to complete Quest the First--five books from the mythology, folklore, fairy tale and fantasy genres--but it's nice to know that there's a Journey category with a commitment of only one book if I should fall behind.

My five selections:

Gods Behaving Badly. Marie Phillips

The Annotated Alice. Lewis Carroll

Girl Meets Boy. Ali Smith

Summerland. Michael Chabon

The Once and Future King. T.H. White

  1. Very pleased to have you in, thanks for signing up! The Annotated Alice is a fabulous book, I hope you enjoy it. I look forward to hearing about Summerland, it is a book I've considered picking up in the past.

  2. I've given Summerland as a gift twice, Carl; I figured it was high time I got around to reading it. :)

  3. Ooh, The Annotated Alice! I have always wanted to read that version of it.

The Once and Future King is one of my favourite books, and earlier this year I read Summerland and enjoyed it a lot too :)

Girl Meets Boy will probably end up as an extra on my list. I hope you enjoy all your picks!

  6. Great list! I just recently finished listening to Michael Chabon reading Summerland. It was so much fun to listen to him because he's quite gifted with being able to do all the voices. I hope you enjoy it, too. Also, I loved The Once and Future King, but it's been many years since I read it. I'm looking forward to your reviews!

  9. You have some interesting choices on your list! Some of the tried and true (Once and Future King, Annotated Alice) mixed with very recent work. I look forward to reading what you think, particularly of Girl Meets Boy.

  10. Summerland is one of the best books I've ever read. I didn't know the audiobook is so good; I'll have to listen to it. And I don't much care for the other Michael Chabon books I've read (Kavalier and Clay, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh).

heyy this sounds like really good book.. must read it.. but can u post a review of the book or something so I’ll have a better idea.. thanks!
But I cant resist sharing what i've loved reading most recently. Its the Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis. The author's imagination and creativity never cease to amaze me. Although most might think that they are for children, I think most adults would also enjoy reading them too. In fact, Disney is coming up with the latest Narnia movie-Prince Caspian, this May 16th. It promises to be awesome by the looks of the trailor. You can catch the trailer here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqzYukVDqy4
Dont miss it! Its got me ever so excited!!
