I had read an excerpt earlier, but found the entire article fascinating.

His description of evolution from religious-based cursing to sexually-based cursing is interesting. With the overuse of the 'f' word, I wonder what people will use next, after it has lost it's shock value. An extrapolation of Pinker would be that as long as there are sexual taboos we will have sexually based curse words. But, if it is so overused that it loses it's effect, does it matter if there are still cultural taboos?Anne Camillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12419931136194330529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861486.post-39125432294415650152007-10-15T18:43:00.000-04:002007-10-15T18:43:00.000-04:00No, I haven't seen that commercial. The swearing is things like "What the French Toast!" and "You lint licker." Cracks me up every time. It's a lesson in how to make clean words sound dirty :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861486.post-18407964532373294862007-10-15T15:01:00.000-04:002007-10-15T15:01:00.000-04:00I have no objection to the use of strong language,...I have no objection to the use of strong language, only it's misuse and overuse, as described here.

Lazy writing, lazy talk, to swear all the time.Zhoenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03515663141425057088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861486.post-65822963470145009922007-10-15T08:29:00.000-04:002007-10-15T08:29:00.000-04:00I wholeheartedly agree!3Mhttp://1morechapter.comI wholeheartedly agree!
3M
http://1morechapter.com1morechapterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04919728304715220778noreply@blogger.com
